The Raleigh Divorce Lawyers at The Law Corner offer a practicable alternative to going to court for your divorce. Mediation is a process for resolving disputes in which an impartial mediator assists the divorcing parties in reaching a mutually satisfactory settlement, known as “the divorce agreement”. As North Carolina Mediators, we provide you and your spouse a way to settle the conflict without ever going to court. Divorce mediation can be crucial if you have children and must interact with your ex-spouse after you are divorced because of child custody and child visitation. The Law Corner mediator brings forth an atmosphere for a rational discussion about your finances, your children, and your assets.

The mediation process is entirely voluntary and non-binding until the agreement is signed. The mediator has no power to “force” a decision or to make either party to accept a settlement. Instead, our trained divorce mediator Brian Demidovich makes it easy for rational conversations to be had , and negotiations to take place. Brian has years of experience mediating divorces for people in the Raleigh Triangle area, and his process includes identifying obstacles to settlement and developing strategies for overcoming them.

Why Mediation works

Mediation creates a safe environment for negotiation because the mediator can control and direct communications. Attorneys often fear that the making of any “reasonable” settlement offer will be taken as a sign of weakness or will be used by the other side as the starting point for the next round of negotiations.
Meditation causes parties to not started out with offers but discussion. The parties focused on exploring productive avenues to settlement and do not digress into an argument.
Meeting at the bargaining table with the express purpose of discussing the agreement With each party paying one half the cost of the mediator’s fee, forces each party to be vested in working through a reasonable solution. During the mediation session, each party is given an opportunity to educate and influence their opponents in the opening presentation directly. The intensity of a party’s feelings or emotions can be conveyed. As a result, the mediation session typically provides each side with a more realistic view of the opposing position (one not filtered through lawyers) and often results in settlement proposals that otherwise would have been rejected.
